Tips For Getting Your Platinum Card 〰️ Hair Food

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hair Food. The opinions and text are all mine.

When it comes to hair care I don't mess around. Clearly, lol. Let's just say my hair has been through the ringer. With that being said, I take hair care very seriously! I'm always on the hunt for clean products that actually work. Recently, while at Target I was looking for some new hair care for the freshly colored locks and my eyes were immediately drawn to the Hair Food products. Not only did I love the packaging (I'm a sucker for good branding) but right on the front of the bottle it said, Sulfate, Dye, Paraben and Mineral Oil free. WHAT MORE COULD I WANT. Plus, I snuck in a little sniff and it smelled so good. I naturally went for the Avocado & Argan Oil which works to smooth and soften hair that dry and thirst like mine! Win, win! Upon bringing it home and using it, all I can say is I'm hooked. Best part? Well besides the pump bottles (can I get a YES) is that it's super affordable!

I asked my hair dresser Mandie Barnes for some tips she had for getting your platinum card. Here’s what she sent back!

1. Your skin tone. Be sure and consult with a specialist before considering making the change. Bring pictures to your stylist of what you want and what you don’t want. Make sure you are on the same page. Your stylist can look at your eye color and skin tone and help you make the right decision.

2. Make sure your hair is healthy enough to handle it. There’s going to be some damage, sorry! Anytime you lighten your hair, you risk damaging it. Not only do you need to worry about the hair breaking off, but damaged hair can affect the color itself and whether it takes evenly. Don’t fret, just be sure your stylist uses a bond builder like B3 or Olaplex. If your hair is in bad shape I suggest waiting until it’s healthier to begin a blonde transformation.

3. Be prepared to spend time and money to multiple appointments. A blonde transformation can take many hours and multiple days in the salon if done correctly. Once it’s complete be aware that big color changes also require much more upkeep than a subtle one. You will need to make regular visits to the salon for toners, glosses, trims, and root touch ups. Blonde is a high maintenance color.

4. Everyone’s hair is different. Just because you have a friend who went platinum in one appointment does not mean you will be able to. For many it’s a process. For example, virgin brown hair is going to lift much quicker and easier than hair with brown box dye on it. Be patient, and be sure and be honest with your stylist about the history of your hair services.

5. Invest in at home products and treatments. It is very important to treat your hair at home with repairing masks and moisture treatments to keep the health of your hair in between appointments. I also recommend using a shampoo/conditioner that fights away brass as all blonde hair will fade brassy without the proper products.
